Got a new website for my Cynthia Davis Designs boho chic wedding dresses and party gowns. I'm moving a lot of my designs to my websites to make space at some of my venues for other things. Since I have a ton of designs to show off, I'll use this one for most of the wedding and party gowns.

Under a blue sky...marry me in blue !

Blue.bleu.aqua.tuquoise.sea.sky.ocean.....the colors of blue are myriad and some of the most popular and well worn clothing of our times is blue...blue jeans and denim. Blue is a prized color historically with indigo dyes creating the source of much blue fashion. I like blue...actually I love blue. I wear it a lot, despite the fact it isn't my best color. Blue makes me feel centered. relaxed and confident. I'm not sure why :)

I like to make things in blue and seldom do, since most brides don't marry in blue...though they do incorporate blue into their bridal palette in the form of garters, pillows, ribbons, even lingerie. But blue is suc a lovely color to waste!

I think more marriages should happen in blue. I need to make more blue gowns. I did make one. Tis short, modern and relaxed....perfect for a wedding at the sea or a park under the trees. It would be perfect for a bridesmaid who didn't want a fussy gown. It is imminently re-wearable. For short gowns, I like the concept of ruffled lace lingerie style shorts or a simple frilly hem slip peeking out the edges.

Did I mention blue ?

Spring is on the way !!

Spring is on the way...even if it's difficult to believe in the midst of winter's rough wind and cold. I have been working on spring and summer fashions for my shops and am busy immersing myself in a fresh palette of palest pinks, ecru and pale golds with bits of nude, creme brulee and of course creams and whites. Whites are unique in that there are so many shades of white. Cream, ivory, cool white, blue white, tinted pastel whites, the variations are seemingly endless. This spring is seeing lots of buff and nude toned whites along with earth tones  and pastels of every shade. I'm focusing on greens and pale yellow tones as well.

That's it, a wrap up of the spring palette I've been peeking at all the autumn ! I'll keep you posted on news flashes on new color injections.

For now...spring is on the way.....spring is on the way.....spring...it really is coming!

Vintage Inspired Wedding Dress - Strapless Swiss Dots Cotton Gown

Wedding dresses can be a little stuffy and traditional...not in a good way. Sometimes it's good to let a bit of freshness into the lineup and allow some simple vintage-inspired styles to come out.

Beach weddings particularly, require a simple, breezy style that will look and feel easy with sand, wind and waves. Soft cotton or linen is a godsend for humid beach climates or any warm weather weddings. Allow yourself to be free on your wedding day to enjoy the day and maybe let the sand run between your toes after the pictures are taken.

Finding a comfortable breezy style is easier than ever before as many wedding dress makers are including cotton and linen gowns and short, more casual styles in their lines. Maybe you don't want to go with flipflops for your reception, but allow yourself to think a bit more simple and romantic for your wedding dress.

Short Chic - A Simple Wedding Dress

Sometimes you need a wedding dress that is simple, elegant and short. If you are planning to get married on a beach in the Bahamas, a long dress may simply be too much to manage. Similarly, if your wedding is casual or you feel uncomfortable with a huge dress, a short wedding dress can be a great choice.

Lots of brides in the World War II era got married in street length wedding gowns - more of a tea length to today's brides. Another great bonus of a short gown is the opportunity to show off some of the gorgeous shoes available right now.

Short dresses often have mini trains or tiny embellishments at the back to take the place of a traditional wedding dress train. The best part of wearing a short dress is that you can wear your lovely dress straight through the reception, no need to change gowns for dinner and dancing.

A short wedding dress can be surprisingly romantic, chic and trendy. If you can't bear to wear your short dress later on as an evening look, it will at least take up less room in your spare closet!

New Designs !

I've been adding new designs to my various shops, and I'll showcase a couple of these to give you a feel for them. You can find a link to my shops in the bar under the header. Go take a peek and guess...like me...what I'll make next :)

Really Red Sundress

Expresso Silk Halter with Mint and Net Detail

Sweet and Swirly Ecru Ballgown

She dreamed of one day having a tiny little garden with soft old fashioned roses in cream and yellow. She envisioned a little white fence and a swing for two to enjoy summer sunsets. She dreamed of one day having a wading pool and swing set in that same little garden with tiny little treble voices calling to them in the swing...it was on her someday mind.

This is one of those dresses that make me smile every time I see it. It is based on a bustier top and hand draped to give it a unique design. I has a pixie, swirly hemline with an underlayer of raw cut white cotton. The top layer of the dress is ecru sheer soft tulle and is swishy and swirly to wear. I has a peep hole near the waist in the back with hand created little waterfall trim that drip down above and below the cut out. It is deliciously feminine and I love it. It is tiny, but exquisite. I had so much fun making it.

I was awed and happy to have it worn at the Mid Atlantic Green Wedding Showcase by Joy, a really beautiful model with a tiny waist just perfect for the gown. Some gowns just make me so happy!!
